Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Timing Chain Failure

Overview

Timing chain stretch on the 3.0 TDV6 engine fitted to the Range Rover Sport is a well-known fault. The timing chain and tensioners can stretch prematurely — particularly on vehicles that have suffered from infrequent oil changes or extended service intervals. Left unaddressed, a failed timing chain will cause catastrophic engine damage.

Symptoms

• ▶Rattling or ticking noise from the front of the engine on cold start
