Known JLR Fault
Jaguar F-Pace 2.0 Ingenium Diesel DPF Blockage — Causes & Fix
Affects
Overview
DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) blockage is one of the most common faults on the Jaguar F-Pace 2.0 Ingenium diesel. The F-Pace is often used for school runs and urban commuting — exactly the kind of short-journey driving that prevents the DPF from reaching the temperature required for passive regeneration. Once blocked, the DPF will trigger warning lights and, if left unaddressed, require expensive replacement.
Symptoms
- ▶DPF warning light or 'diesel particulate filter full' message
- ▶Reduced performance — engine in 'de-rate' mode
- ▶Excessive black smoke from exhaust during or after regeneration attempt
- ▶Fuel consumption noticeably worse than normal
- ▶Strong smell of burning from exhaust
- ▶Engine management light alongside DPF warning
What Causes It?
- ✕Frequent short journeys preventing passive DPF regeneration
- ✕Faulty EGR valve disrupting combustion quality and increasing soot loading
- ✕Low engine oil level or incorrect oil grade — reduces regeneration efficiency
- ✕Blocked DPF pressure differential sensor giving false readings
- ✕Faulty glow plugs preventing complete combustion on cold starts
The Solution
JLRMAN diagnoses DPF condition using SDD to read soot loading percentage and check for related fault codes. We perform a forced regeneration cycle where possible. If the DPF is beyond regeneration, we carry out a professional DPF clean or replacement. We also investigate and address any underlying cause — EGR faults, glow plug failures, or oil issues — to prevent recurrence.
How to Prevent It
Take a 30-minute motorway run weekly if the F-Pace is used mainly for short trips — sustained high engine speed allows passive DPF regeneration and avoids blockage.
